They're an easy and fun way for the family to get in the Halloween spirit!

Some of the best craft projects can be made from common household items, and here we’ll learn how to make two fantastic Halloween craft projects from coffee filters and a few other items: Coffee Filter Ghosts and Coffee Filter Bats. These are both easy projects that children and adults of all ages can enjoy!

It is recommended that adults accompany children with these crafts, as scissors are used – and besides, it’s more fun for everyone that way!

Coffee Filter Ghosts

What you’ll need:

Basket coffee filters (one per ghost)

Ribbons in Halloween colors like orange, purple, and black

Magic Markers

String (optional)

Assorted decorations like googly eyes (optional)

Candy or tissue for stuffing the head

Scissors

Instructions:

Take a coffee filter and place a wadded tissue or some candy in the center. This will serve as the stuffing for the head. If you use candy, they make for super Halloween party favors!

Tie a Halloween colored ribbon around the neck of the ghost.

Use magic markers to draw faces on your ghosts. You can also use googly eyes and other fun items to get creative with it!

If you want to hang your ghosts up as Halloween decorations, you can tie a piece of string around the neck and tuck it under the ribbon. These are great for hanging in Halloween trees, or just around the house!

Coffee Filter Bats

What you’ll need:

Basket coffee filters (one per bat)

Black watercolor paint

Paintbrush

Clothespins

Googly eyes

Purple and/or orange ribbon

Scissors

Craft glue

Instructions:

Create an environment suitable for painting

Paint the coffee filters with black watercolor and set aside to dry.

Once dried, fold the painted coffee filters in half.

Fold them in half again, folding it in quarters.

Take a clothespin and pinch the new fold with the clothespin.

Open the filter and glue to the clothespin as needed to make the wings spread out.

Glue googly eyes to the front of the clothespin.

Cut semi-circles around the edges to make it more bat-like.

Tie with orange or purple ribbons for hanging.

And now you have two cute handmade Halloween decorations to adorn the porch, the windows, and anywhere else around the house!

Creating a Halloween tree is a great way to add some festive Halloween decor to your home, and it can be a great project for the family to work on together. The trend for decorating a Halloween tree in the home has been growing ever since Disney honored Ray Bradbury (and his book, The Halloween Tree) with his very own Halloween tree in Disneyland.

Since these are becoming more popular, you can now easily find Halloween trees to decorate in most local home/hardware stores. Thinking of decorating your own? Here are five spooky ideas for decorating a Halloween tree:

1. Lights – a must! Nothing makes a holiday tree sparkle as much as twinkling lights, and a Halloween tree is no exception. Most that are for sale already come with lights, but if you find a tree that you want that doesn’t come with lights, fear not, Halloween lights are affordable and abundant in stores. Glowing oranges and purples will set the mood like nothing else!

2. Handmade Halloween decorations. This is what will make your tree unique and special, and you can easily make cute decorations like the following without spending a bundle:

Ghostie

To make this little guy, simply take one tissue and ball it up (for the head), and then cover the ball with another tissue. Then take one white pipe cleaner and bend it around the neck and bend the ends to make hands. Take a black marker for eyes and a mouth, and voila! You now have a ghostie to hang on your tree.
